Reece Turner – Renewable Energy Campaigner, Greenpeace

An energy revolution is happening in Australia. The sun now hits solar panels on over 5 million Australian homes, generating enough electricity to power half of all Australian households. In recent weeks over 90% of South Australia's electricity demands were met by wind. And since 2009 demand for electricity from our national grid network has been reduced every year, surprising all the experts.

For many of us – especially Permies – this is a change we want to see grow. But the incumbent, traditional power generators and retailers are fighting back. The Dirty Three, AGL, Origin and Energy Australia control over 77% of the electricity market in Australia and they are not happy about what's happening.

Reece Turner from Greenpeace Australia Pacific will explain all of this and how we can help ensure the Dirty Three don't get in the way of a renewable energy future for Australia.

Reece has led a variety of campaigns at Greenpeace since 2008. These include a successful push to ban the import of illegal timber, exposing corporations profiting from the destruction of orangutan habitat, and advancing effective recycling programs in Australia to reduce plastic pollution in our oceans.

Monday 21st July at 7pm (supper at 8:30pm) at the Lindfield Community Centre, 259 Pacific Highway, Lindfield.

$5 non-members. Free for PSN members. Doors open at 6.30pm – library, reuse roundabout, produce swaps. Please join us for supper afterwards and bring a mug for tea.
