City of Ryde : Healthy and Sustainable Living at Home : Bookings Essential

The City of Ryde Council are teaming up with our very own Margaret Mossakowska to teach practical tips from experts on how to grow your own food, save money, water and energy and smart renovation ideas, for a healthy and sustainable lifestyle!

City of Ryde will celebrate National Sustainable House Day with this informative and action packed talk and tour event, covering topics in the Sustainable Living Guide.

2.00 - 3.00pm - Talk by Tracy Graham, Designer from Architectural firm, Envirotecture
Tracy will discuss a range of topics around building, maintaining and renovating a sustainable home. Case studies of sustainable home improvements, illustrating features such as energy and water efficiency, insulation and thermal regulation, rainwater harvesting, solar hot-water, appliances and fixtures, allergy free, eco-friendly cleaning and more will be incorporated. 3.00 - 3.30pm - Q & A, Afternoon Tea and a short bus ride to the tour site

3.30 - 4.30pm - Tour of a ‘Sustainable Home’ with Garden Expert, Margaret Mossakowska
Margaret will take you on a visual journey of her extensive permaculture food garden at 14 Burmah Road, Denistone. Explore composting, edible gardens, food preservation, water saving in your garden and more. For more information visit the Vivid Edible Garden Facebook page (External link).

Travel arrangements

The West Ryde Community Hall is a 5 minute walk from West Ryde Train Station. Nearby street parking is available at no cost.

A bus will be provided to take participants from West Ryde Community Hall to the nearby demonstration Sustainable Home and Permaculture Garden tour site, and back at the end of the tour. The house is also a 15 minute walk (with some hills) from the community centre, should participants wish to spend more time at the tour site and walk back later.
