Aquaculture: Problem or solution? – Dr Cat Dorey

  • 21 Sep 2015
  • 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Lindfield Community Centre, 259 Pacific Highway

Aquaculture is often described as 'the solution' to our growing human populations and declining fish stocks. But is it really?

There's a lot to consider when trying to grow fish sustainably – the species of shellfish or finfish, what to feed it, where to grow it, the scale of production, and how to deal with waste and potential diseases. Dr Cat Dorey will take us through the problems facing aquaculture, and some of the solutions being developed to make aquaculture a truly sustainable and healthy source of food.

Cat has been working on seafood issues as a Science Adviser and Campaigner for Greenpeace for over 10 years. She has lectured on, and co-authored a chapter about, the challenges of sustainable aquaculture.

Join Cat and PSN on Monday 21st September at 7pm (supper at 8:30pm) at the Lindfield Community Centre, 259 Pacific Highway, Lindfield.

$5 non-members. Free for PSN members. Doors open at 6.30pm when you can check out our library, pick up a bargain at the reuse roundabout, or some produce from our members. Please join us for supper afterwards at 8.30 pm and bring a mug for tea.
