Garden Team Event in Marsfield

The next permabee will be a Penny Pyett’s property at Ryde.

We will be helping Penny get her garden ready for National Permaculture Day, which is on Sunday 6 May this year.

This is a fantastic opportunity to come along and see one of Sydney’s oldest permaculture gardens with its mature food forest, grey water system and animal systems.

Penny’s garden has won a number of awards and it recently featured in Geoff Lawton’s DVD on Urban Permaculture.

We will be working on the front garden putting in micro earthworks, constructing a keyhole garden bed, installing a small pond and planting out the area with a mixture of perennial herbs, teas, vegetables and flowers that attract beneficial insects.  There will lots of other activities to do to enhance the productiveness of the property, including pruning and mulching.

Penny will also be giving a short talk on the use of guilds in the garden by the placement of plants that benefit each other when grown together by providing nutrients, shelter and assistance with pest control.

WHAT TO BRING...

A simple dish or other contribution to share for lunch will be greatly appreciated.

Also, please bring your own hat, gloves, water bottle, block out and garden tools (such as spade, shovel, secateurs etc).
