    Hi Everyone,

I am researching garden tool maintenance at the moment, and have come across the idea below several times. Has any one had success with this idea?

Planting Spade: To prevent it from rusting, make up an oily sand mix by adding 'bricky' sand and vegetable oil into a bucket and stirring it up. Sliding the spade in and out of that mixture will wipe off any muck and most importantly, coat the blade with a fine layer of oil to prevent it from rusting.

    Cheers

    Shawn

Haven't tried it myself but I think it's worth a go.

I thought that I remembered Peter Cundall recommending this, but cannot find a reference.

Gardening Australia has these suggestions and they usually have tried them out.
