Margin’s Mushrooms is a small family–based business in Woy Woy. They grow Swiss Browns and White Mushrooms, which they sell on site and at farmers markets and restaurants. Although not registered organic they use organic methods, and avoid artificial chemicals.
Kim and Chris Margin run morning tours which take about 2 hours and which include a good morning tea and a talk on producing mushrooms. For us he has promised to slant his talk towards home production of mushrooms. Questions answered of course. And a bag of fresh picked mushrooms included.
The tours cost $22 per person. More information is on their website.
We will need 15 to 20 people to make the visit viable.
In addition you can purchase mushroom compost containing peat moss which I have found makes things grow very well, and also randomly produces fresh mushrooms after rain.
Woy Woy is a pleasant hour’s drive from Sydney, and we could lunch together afterwards. Those who wish could round out the day by joining us in a walk along the Kariong bush track where Jake Cassar took us to have a look at the ancient (?) Egyptian hieroglyphic rock carvings, (google Kariong hieroglyphs). There are also some genuine aboriginal carvings nearby.
Car-pooling would be good -contact me if you need help or can help in this. Train to Woy Woy is about I hour, followed by 5 min taxi ride, or I could meet you.
Please register early to ensure we have the numbers.
