Basket making with plastic bags
An event not to be missed! Bridget Kennedy, our esteemed professional jeweler is running a workshop on how to transform waste materials such as plastic bags into baskets.
Below is her description of the workshop:
"The weaving of baskets is as old as the history of man. One of the techniques, coiling, involves winding fibre around a core while stitching it every so often. Traditionally, grasses, trees and other natural fibres were used to make containers. However, we’ll be making them out of discarded plastic bags, old fabrics, and other flexible materials."
Please make sure you bring along some scrap materials you might like to incorporate and a yarn needle and join us as we learn a simple coiling technique to make our own baskets.
Here is an image of the gorgeous baskets she makes.
