Vegesafe Soil Testing with Professor Mark Taylor
What is the program about?
Vegesafe is a community science participation program run by Environmental Science staff at Macquarie University. They are the only service of this kind in Australia!
Vegesafe’s motto is "Carry on Gardening" because this is exactly what they want people to do - in the knowledge that their soils are metal free as is the produce from their gardens.
Professor Taylor will give a brief overview of the Vegesafe program and the other research being done by his team, after which there will be time for his staff to do some soil testing for those at the meeting.
Do you want your soil tested?
If you have a vegetable patch or are concerned about metal contamination in your backyard, we encourage you to participate in the Vegesafe program.
if you want to bring soil samples to be tested at the PSN meeting, you'll need to first download the consent form and read the instructions on how to collect your samples. Just click on https://research.science.mq.edu.au/vegesafe/how-to-participate/ for this information.
Please note that donations of $20 will cover the time involved, costs of soil analysis and laboratory consumables for up to five samples submitted for testing.
If there's not enough time on the night for your samples to be analysed, you can leave them with the Vegesafe team to take away to analyse in their laboratory.
Free for members, small donation for guests.
Doors open at 6:30pm - a good time to check out our members' library & catch up with other PSN members.
Please join us for supper after the talk.
