COILED RAFFIA BASKET

Saturday 3rd September 10.30am to 4.30pm

Lane Cove North

Join the Living Skills Team in another exciting workshop

Noami will be teaching us how to make a Coiled Raffia Basket. Naomi is an accomplished sewer, macrame and basket weaver. Naomi brushed up on her basket weaving skills by taking part in several of Sally Blackwell's (wastenotfibredesigns) courses that she runs at a Hawkesbury location.  Naomi has created baskets using material foraged from gardens around her.  In this workshop she will be using Raffia as the material because it is an flexible and easy learning medium.

Naomi will teach you how to coil a basket using raffia. If you are a beginner, she will teach you how to make a simple basket, tray or bowl. If you already know how to coil a basket, she can teach how to make a lid with a knob and a flange as in the photo, or a footing.

Raffia and a chenille needle will be supplied. There will also be a selection of yarns available for you to use.

If you prefer bring your own yarn in your choice of colour and texture, so you can take home your project to continue if you run out of time. Smooth and not so thick yarns, such as cotton, are easier to use.

This is an all day workshop so please bring your own lunch and a plate of snacks to share with the group.

Tea and coffee is supplied but please bring your own cup.
