Ah, the mystery of compost! What exactly is compost? How is it different to soil? Where can you get it? How do you make it in your garden?
The experienced gardener well knows that compost is black gold, guaranteed to give your gardens a boost at any time of year, but particularly in the spring when we start planting all the nutrient-hungry crops that grow through the Sydney summer.
In this workshop I'll cover how to make compost in your garden, from space-limited options such as wormfarms (vermicomposting) and bokashi, to composting using the commercially-bought black bins, to composting in a composting bay.
I'll talk about hot composts and cold composts, where to acquire the ingredients for making compost, how to keep vermin out of your compost, and also go through the creation and use of weed teas and compost teas and other liquid nutrients for your garden.
There'll also be a demonstration of the Amazing Circular Compost Sieve!
Morning tea will be provided.
Workshop attendees are welcome to bring a bucket or box to carry some sieved compost back with them to put in their own gardens.
Where: the Garden of Sel When: 30th July, 9am - 12pm. Bring: gardening gloves and a hat, a shovel or compost turning fork, water bottle and your own reusable cup for drinks, and a bucket or box in which to take some compost home.
