MENDING BEE - CLOTHES

Saturday 26th November  1pm to 5pm

Lane Cove North

Join the Living Skills team in another workshop in the spirit of. Re-pair, re-use, re-cycle, re-purpose...

Learning how to repair garments is one way to fight back against the disposable clothing culture. A "stitch in time" could potentially save many clothes from meeting an early demise and reduce your impact on the environment.  It is also deeply satisfying to repair your own things. You can also use "visible mending techniques" to add an interesting and individual touch to your own garment.

Mending is a way of repairing clothes that have holes, stains, or other signs of wear to make them more useful and beautiful.  It is about using what you have, embracing imperfections, fixing what is broken, and rejecting the idea that newer is better.  Most mending involves sewing, which means keeping your hands occupied with repetitive, soothing stitches.  You get to focus on the task in front of you, and harness your creativity to make your clothes one-of-a-kind - A colourful patch on top of a rip in your jeans or an embroidered flower on top of a coffee stain. It is meditative, slow work.  It is productive and deeply satisfying. And it is sustainable.

Naomi, an expert in sewing and repairing clothes, will be leading this session and guiding you in your mending,

Bring clothes that you wish to mend. materials to patch up or darn with and you can work on your own project. Bring your own scissors, needles or threads if you have them.  If not, don't stress, there will be selection of threads, needles and a few patches of material available for you to use.

While mending, you can relax and enjoy good food, company and Naomi's lovely permaculture garden she is establishing at her apartment.

Please bring a plate of snacks to share with the group and your own cup.  Tea and coffee is supplied.

Please note that the registration fee of $5.00 is non-refundable, due to administration costs, unless the event has to be cancelled by PSN.
