Monthly gathering: Building Climate Wise Communities
7pm Monday 20th February
Lindfield Seniors Community Hall, 259 Pacific Hwy and Zoom
This month we have a special interactive presentation by James Chan from Ku-ring-gai Council
, and a member of the Rural Fire Service (RFS).
They will show us how to prepare our homes for bushfires. It might save your life, your family (including pets) or your home. They will answer key questions including: What are the hazards in your particular area? What will you do in a bushfire emergency?
We will get to play with their 3D interactive, simulation platform, the Simtable™, to see how bushfires may behave within Ku-ring-gai. This has a sand-like terrain that can be moulded by hand to form a part of Ku-ring-gai. An overhead camera and projector work together to start a computer-generated bushfire at one end, which changes according to the landscape, wind direction, and embers, creating an interesting and realistic example of bushfire behaviour.
At the end of the workshop you will:
- See how fast bushfires can move in a familiar area
- Know your bushfire risk and exposure to other hazards
- Understand how to prepare your family and home
- Develop the right information for your emergency plan
- Be able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your home and property to extreme weather events
Please note that we will screen the event on Zoom, but it will be hard to capture everything on our camera and the best experience will be in person.
Doors open at 6.30pm – visit our library, check out our swap table. Please stay for supper - Hornsby group will host this month.
Please register if you are attending in person so we can prepare the hall.
