Living Skills: Saurkraut and Cabbage Rolls workshop

Saturday 17th August 11am to 2pm

Lindfield

Before refrigeration and cheap transport were available, sauerkraut and other preserved and fermented foods provided a good source of nutrients throughout the winter months in many cultures around the world.

Reputedly Captain Cook always had a store of sauerkraut on his sea voyages after discovering that it prevented scurvy.

Join the living skills team for this fermentation workshop where professional chef Peter will show us how to use fermented cabbage for two different recipes, saurkraut and cabbage rolls.

We will learn how to make both vegetarian and meat-filled cabbage rolls and  how to prepare the vegetables in saurkraut for fermentation.

We will also learn how to make the tomato sauce to accompany the cabbage rolls.

This workshop will suit omnivores, flexitarians and vegetarians. Tea and coffee and all workshop materials will be provided.

What to bring:

- an apron

- a plate of food to share for lunch along with the cabbage rolls that we will make

As we will be working outside under cover please dress in warm clothing and wear sturdy shoes in case the paths are wet or slippery.

URGENT - DUE TO THE MEDICAL ALLERGY OF A PARTICIPANT WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE DO NOT  WEAR ANY SYNTHETIC PERFUME TO THIS EVENT.

This workshop is for PSN members only.
