Well folks, we are going back to school again for the September Permabee.
Alexandra Delien (a recent member of PSN) has been enthusiastically involved at her children’s school to get a new generation of children hands on with permaculture.
John Colet Primary School was founded by the School of Philosophy, and so have a well-rounded approach to education, but they could do with some help getting a bit more “hands on” in the garden.
Alexandra has been working behind the scenes to get support for a school veg garden and has managed to get 16+ other volunteer parents on board. Recently 3 teachers have also joined the effort and are looking at integrating the garden into the school's curriculum.
Not only that but Alexandra has managed to get a grant and got 4 x 1 m raised garden beds to start the garden off. Meanwhile 2 of the teachers have attended a workshop, organised by the Dept of Education and Nor ht Sydney Health, called Live Well @ School. They are in the process of applying for another grant but hits may take more time.
The space we have to work with is a nice size for starting a project like this, and I think we would do well to lend our support to Alexandra and this next-generation of young gardeners to get the ball rolling.
An important note, the date fore the permabee is Sunday 22nd of September to coincide with a staff meeting at the school.
I hope this doesn’t cause any inconvenience.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this will develop over time.
See you there.
Peter
